Design System Documentation for Solo Founders

Solo founders often avoid design system documentation because it feels like enterprise overhead. But lightweight documentation can save time. The goal is not to create a perfect internal wiki. The goal is to stop making the same decisions repeatedly.

Document the decisions you repeat

Keep documentation close to implementation

If documentation lives too far from the code, it becomes stale. Component examples, prop behavior, and usage notes should be easy to update alongside implementation.

Start small. Write one page that explains your product's spacing, CTA hierarchy, card structure, and state patterns. That page will pay for itself faster than you expect.
